Hands down the best tonkatsu I’ve ever had and probably ever will. I loved all the little touches, unique mugs for each of us, the plating and the presentations. I recommend the chateaubriand. We all shared bites and while they are all winners, mine was the best.

Absolutely amazing food and service~ We ordered the Shinshu Taro Pork Cutlet+Pork Fillet Cutlet set and the Tawara Pork Loin Cutlet+Special Pork Fillet Cutlet set with a side of the mushroom truffle cream croquette This mushroom truffle cream croquette was stuffed to the brim with deliciousness~ Unfortunately did not take a photo because it was so good that it was demolished. The Shinshu pork was a light and fragrant and juicy piece that goes so well with the tonkotsu sauce. The Tawara pork was more moreish and even juicier. With the fat melting in your mouth. Eating these katsu did not feel greasy or heavy, even though they're such large fatty chunks! Also I did not know I needed shiso salad dressing before until today. This with the cabbage salad was so good and refreshing for the tastebuds when eating the fatty pork pieces Ordered the pear tea and the berry tea as well! With complimentary vanilla icecream with cinnamon and apple sauce drizzled on top, such a nice way to end the meal Thank you so much for the amazing meal!

What a cute little shop! Two ladies served us possibly the most tender chateaubriand from two different places: Tokyo, and Yamagata. Both were very tender, but the one from Tokyo — wow. That could go up against the most tender wagyu, which is impressive for pork. Honestly speaking, the portions are a little bit small for myself, but if you’re not too hungry — perfect size. Highly recommend their chateaubriand / Tenderloin cuts. One thing that really stood out is the different types of salts they’ve got to choose from, just over a dozen types. Each piece is served with a small piece of yuzu, which differs from my usual sesame seed / tonkatsu sauce, however this felt way more bright and sort of ‘healthy’ in a way.

Tiny Tonkatsu place filled with locals. The Katsu batter was extremely thin and light, and the meat was cooked medium rare which is great!

That's so delicious and so far no other deep fried pork can compare. Anyone recommend better to me? That's not too many seats and must reserve in advance restaurant. Staff very nice and we have very good time.

Enjoyed it! For dinner its a set menu at about yen3500 or so. Light and balanced. Great choice of salt to go with the tonkatsu, especially liked the truffel salt and the curry salt. Also very good pork curry in the set. It's on the third floor - 2 tables and a few bar seats so call and reserve.

"épais" means thick in French and that's the shop's name. definitely it was a thick Katsu they are serving. but it's just not about the thickness, beside you are going to enjoy the katsu with salt instead of the usual katsu sauce, and that's the particularity. it was AMAZING. the restaurant itself isn't too big therefore you should make a reservation before going (just to be safe I think ). the personal is great and welcoming too

Japanese colleague brought me here on weekdays and according to him it is difficult to make a reservation. So make sure to reserve this place before u come. Meat was tender and u eat it with the salt provided. Set meal was well worth it with good service like any place in Japan. It might be strange to eat pork that look a little undercook but this is exactly the perfect state for juicy and tender meat. I prefer the pork loin as it is less oily or fattening.
